“Ducking”

I’m skipping so many events with this post, but I promise I will come back to them.

A few weeks ago, we purchased Alex’s next vehicle. He was determined to buy a Jeep. I have no doubt, had the events of October 6th not taken place, he and his jeep would be pulling in and out of our driveway everyday. He was very determined, much like his mom. We all laugh about my mind getting set to something. If I speak it, It’s going to happen. Alex worked in the same fashion.

After his earthly passing (I use the term “earthly” because, he is still very much alive, just not here physically), his Bonus Dad and I bought his jeep. We are determined to make “Baby” everything he would want her to be.

Alex has sent us many signs of his spiritual presence the last several months (again, I will get back to this) but a couple of weeks ago I woke up and intently asked him for a sign that he was with me. This was on a Tuesday morning, and Tuesday’s are my hardest days. That is the day that I found his body in his bed after his spirit had crossed.

I was having lunch with my boss later that afternoon and when we finished, as I was walking to Alex’s Jeep (it’s his, I just drive it around), I noticed a little yellow duck on the driver door handle. I was overcome with emotion. “Ducking” is a jeep thing and I know people who have had jeeps for years and have never been “ducked”. I knew this was my sign and it came on my worst day of the week. I knew Alex worked through someone to make sure I knew he heard me and that he was with me.

This past weekend Faith, Alex’s 11 year old sister, decided that we needed to start “ducking for Alex”. We purchased pink ducks, his favorite color and she created tags, laminated them and attached them to the necks of the ducks, asking those that received them to post a picture on the @livemorelikealex facebook page.

Myself, both of his sisters along with both of his nephews spent Saturday night as a family, riding around “ducking” jeeps and truly felt the spirit of Alex tagging along as we jammed to some of his favorite songs.

Alex was all about delivering smiles and living life to the fullest. He made sure everyone he loved, knew he loved them and that was never questioned. Alex didn’t meet a stranger and was not only a wonderful son, but an equally wonderful brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, employee and drag queen!

He shined! He is still shining through us. Even though his physical presence is missed more than words can express, this weekend, he definitely spoke and shined through his little sister. We were able to spread smiles and show love, just as we know he would want us to do!
